The Aasimar Warlock sits at a perfectly average 5/10 synergy rating. While the thematic overlap of a Celestial patron Aasimar is incredibly popular, the mechanical reality is slightly clunky. Your biggest hurdle is the bonus action bottleneck: activating your Aasimar's Celestial Revelation requires a bonus action, which directly competes with casting Hex or commanding a Flaming Sphere on turn one.
However, if you build around this bottleneck, the Aasimar Warlock becomes a potent Blaster. Radiant Soul (if using the legacy version) or the updated Celestial Revelation grants you a fly speed. Floating 30 feet in the air while raining down Eldritch Blast beams augmented by Agonizing Blast makes you an absolute terror to melee-locked monsters. Furthermore, the Aasimar's built-in Celestial Resistance to necrotic and radiant damage is a massive boon for Warlocks, saving you from having to burn precious Pact Magic slots on defensive spells like Protection from Energy.
We start with a 15 in Charisma, aiming to round it up to 16 at level 4 with a half-feat. Your 13 Constitution is a deliberate choice, setting you up perfectly for Resilient (Constitution) later on to protect your concentration on encounter-ending spells like Hunger of Hadar or Hypnotic Pattern.

Build Path (Levels 1-20)
Levels 1-4
Start by selecting the Genie or Fiend patron. Both offer excellent damage scaling that stacks with your Aasimar traits. At level 2, take the Agonizing Blast and Repelling Blast invocations. Repelling Blast is non-negotiable; pushing enemies 10 feet away per beam keeps them out of melee so you can safely activate your Celestial Revelation. At level 4, take the Fey Touched feat to bump your 15 CHA to 16. Choose Silvery Barbs or Gift of Alacrity as your 1st-level spell; getting free casts saves your heavily restricted Warlock spell slots.
Levels 5-10
Level 5 is a massive power spike. Eldritch Blast now fires two beams, and your Warlock slots upgrade to 3rd-level. Grab Hypnotic Pattern or Fireball (if Fiend). At level 8, take your Ability Score Improvement to bump Charisma to 18, maximizing your spell save DC and Eldritch Blast attack bonus. By level 9, you have 5th-level slots; this is where you spam Synaptic Static, heavily debuffing enemies while your Aasimar flight keeps you safely out of their reach.
Levels 11-16
At level 11, you get your first Mystic Arcanum (6th-level). Take Mass Suggestion; it doesn't require concentration, meaning you can cast it and immediately follow up with a concentration spell on your next turn. At level 12, use your ASI to cap Charisma at 20. Your Celestial Revelation damage is now adding your proficiency bonus (or level, depending on the Aasimar version your DM uses) to one damage roll per turn—apply this to your first Eldritch Blast hit for a massive, reliable damage bump.
Levels 17-20
Level 17 grants your 9th-level Mystic Arcanum. Take Foresight or Wish (if Genie patron). Foresight gives you advantage on all your Eldritch Blast attacks for 8 hours without requiring concentration. At level 19, take Resilient (Constitution) to bump your 13 CON to 14, granting you proficiency in CON saves to ensure you never drop concentration on your high-level spells even if an enemy manages to hit you in the sky.
Recommended Spells
Cantrips
Eldritch Blast is mandatory—it is the chassis this entire build runs on. Take Mind Sliver as your secondary cantrip; targeting an Intelligence save and penalizing the target's next saving throw by 1d4 perfectly sets up your party Wizard's Hold Monster.
Level 1-2 Spells
Take Armor of Agathys. Since Warlock slots automatically scale to the highest level, a 5th-level Armor of Agathys grants 25 temporary HP and deals 25 cold damage to anyone hitting you. Drop Hex as soon as you hit level 5; it hogs your bonus action (competing with Celestial Revelation) and your concentration.
Level 3-5 Spells
Hunger of Hadar is phenomenal area control. Use your Repelling Blast to physically shove escaping enemies back into the void. At 4th level, Dimension Door is the ultimate panic button, especially since Aasimar Warlocks lack innate disengage tools. At 5th level, Synaptic Static is an AoE nuke that targets Intelligence and debuffs attack rolls without requiring concentration.
High-Level Spells
For your 6th-level Arcanum, Mass Suggestion ends encounters instantly. For your 7th-level Arcanum, Forcecage is an auto-win against enemies without teleportation. For your 9th-level Arcanum, Foresight guarantees you hit your Eldritch Blast beams to reliably trigger your Celestial Revelation bonus damage every turn.
Recommended Feats
Fey Touched
Take this at level 4. It rounds your 15 Charisma to 16, and grants Misty Step. Warlocks only have two spell slots for most of their career; getting a free teleport once per day is a lifesaver, allowing you to save your Pact Magic slots for offensive blasts.
Resilient (Constitution)
Take this at level 19 (or earlier if you struggle with concentration). It rounds your 13 Constitution to a 14 and adds your proficiency bonus to CON saves. When you're concentrating on a 5th-level Banishment, you cannot afford to fail a DC 10 concentration check from a stray arrow.
Inspiring Leader
If you prefer a supportive route over Resilient, take Inspiring Leader. With a 20 Charisma, you can grant 25 temporary HP to six allies every short rest at level 20. This heavily incentivizes your party to take short rests, which you desperately need to recover your Warlock spell slots.
Gear Progression
Tier 1 (Levels 1-4)
Secure Studded Leather armor immediately to capitalize on your 14 Dexterity, giving you an AC of 14. Look for a Bloodwell Vial +1 (if your DM allows cross-class items) or a Wand of the War Mage +1 to ignore half-cover when sniping with Eldritch Blast.
Tier 2 (Levels 5-10)
Seek out a Rod of the Pact Keeper +1 or +2. This is the holy grail for Warlocks, boosting both your spell attacks (crucial for hitting Eldritch Blast to apply Celestial Revelation damage) and your spell save DC. It also lets you regain one Warlock slot as an action.
Tier 3 (Levels 11-16)
A Cloak of Displacement is excellent here. While your Aasimar flight keeps you out of melee, ranged attackers will still target you. Forcing disadvantage on all attacks against you preserves your relatively low 69-105 HP pool.
Tier 4 (Levels 17-20)
Equip the Robe of the Archmagi to set your base AC to 15 + DEX modifier, grant advantage on saving throws against spells, and further boost your spell save DC. Pair this with a Staff of Power for a +2 to AC and saving throws, turning your Warlock into an untouchable flying fortress.
Party Composition
As an Aasimar Warlock Blaster, your primary goal is to deal consistent damage from a distance while controlling the battlefield. Because you are reliant on keeping enemies away to effectively use Eldritch Blast and safely activate your Celestial Revelation, you desperately need a strong frontline.
An Ancestral Guardian Barbarian or a Cavalier Fighter are your best friends. They can lock down enemy movement and impose disadvantage on attacks against anyone but themselves, ensuring enemies don't target you while you're airborne. A Grave Domain Cleric is also an incredible pairing; their Path to the Grave channel divinity can double the damage of an Eldritch Blast attack that has your Aasimar bonus radiant damage stacked onto it for a massive burst round.
Multiclass Options
Sorcerer 3 Dip
Taking three levels of Sorcerer (Divine Soul fits the Aasimar theme perfectly) gives you the Quicken Spell metamagic. This allows you to cast Eldritch Blast as a bonus action and an action on the same turn, unleashing up to 8 beams at level 17. You also get the Shield spell to protect your d8 hit die.
Fighter 2 Dip
Starting Fighter for your first level grants CON save proficiency and medium armor/shields, pushing your AC to 19. At Fighter 2, you get Action Surge. Casting two leveled spells in a single turn (like Sickening Radiance into a Forcecage if you coordinate with a Wizard) is incredibly powerful.
Common Pitfalls
- Casting Hex past Level 5: Hex competes for your bonus action with Celestial Revelation. At higher levels, using a 3rd- or 5th-level Warlock slot on 1d6 extra damage is a massive waste of resources compared to Hypnotic Pattern.
- Misunderstanding Celestial Revelation: The Aasimar's bonus damage only applies to one target per turn. Do not try to add it to every single beam of your Eldritch Blast.
- Healing Mid-Combat with Spells: Using a 5th-level Warlock slot to cast Cure Wounds (if Celestial patron) is terribly inefficient. Use your Aasimar Healing Hands trait to pick up downed allies for zero spell slots instead.
- Forgetting Fall Damage: If you lose concentration on a spell that grants flight, or if you are knocked prone while using your Radiant Soul wings, you will fall. Position yourself over safe terrain whenever possible.
