Why Oath of Vengeance?

The Oath of Vengeance turns your Paladin into a premier "Striker"—a role focused on hunting down and destroying high-value targets. While most Paladins split their focus between defense and utility, your job is pure offense. When you mark a boss with your Vow of Enmity, you gain advantage on attack rolls against them, making you incredibly lethal. To pull this off, you need to survive on the front lines, which is where your Dwarven heritage shines.

As a Dwarf, your Dwarven Toughness grants you extra hit points every time you level up, while Dwarven Resilience protects you from poison damage. Since Vengeance Paladins must dive deep into enemy territory to assassinate key targets, this extra durability ensures you can survive the journey. With a starting Strength of 15 and Charisma of 14, you have the muscle to hit hard and the force of personality to power your spells.

Once you reach level 7, features like Relentless Avenger let you pursue fleeing foes whenever you hit them with an opportunity attack. Combined with your natural dwarven stubbornness, no enemy will be able to escape your righteous wrath.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Oath of Vengeance a good subclass for Dwarf Paladin?
Yes, it is an exceptional choice. Vengeance Paladins excel at offense but can sometimes be fragile when isolated from their party. The Dwarf’s natural traits, like Dwarven Toughness for extra hit points and Dwarven Resilience for poison resistance, perfectly offset this weakness. It allows you to play as an aggressive, front-line striker who can hunt down boss monsters without fear of getting knocked out.
What makes Oath of Vengeance different from other Paladin subclasses?
Unlike other Paladin subclasses that focus on protecting allies or healing, the Oath of Vengeance specializes in single-target damage and relentless pursuit. Using your Vow of Enmity, you can isolate a single major threat and gain consistent advantage on your attacks. This makes you the ultimate boss-killer, focusing your divine power on destroying your target rather than holding the defensive line.
