Why Archfey Patron?

Choosing an Elf for your Archfey Patron Warlock blends thematic perfection with powerful battlefield control. As a controller, your main job is to dictate the flow of battle, manipulating enemies and keeping them away from your allies. Your high Charisma (CHA) is your primary ability, ensuring your charm and illusion spells hit with maximum impact.

The Elf's Fey Ancestry trait is a massive boon, granting you advantage against being charmed and complete immunity to sleep magic. This innate defense synergizes perfectly with your 10th-level subclass feature, Beguiling Defenses, which makes you completely immune to charm effects and lets you turn those mind-bending spells back on your enemies. You become an absolute nightmare for rival spellcasters trying to control your mind.

In combat, you will use features like Steps of the Fey to teleport around the battlefield, ensuring you are always in the optimal position to cast your Archfey Spells. If you ever get cornered, your elusive elven nature combined with these teleportation tricks ensures you can easily escape danger and keep controlling the fight from afar.

Archfey Patron Features

Archfey Spells

Level 3

You gain additional spells that count as warlock spells for you: Sleep, Faerie Fire (level 1); Calm Emotions, Phantasmal Force (level 3); Blink, Plant Growth (level 5); Dominate Beast, Greater Invisibility (level 7); Dominate Person, Seeming (level 9).

Steps of the Fey

Level 3

As a bonus action, you can teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Misty Escape

Level 6

When you take damage, you can use your reaction to turn invisible and teleport up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. You remain invisible until the start of your next turn or until you attack or cast a spell. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Beguiling Defenses

Level 10

You are immune to being charmed. In addition, when another creature attempts to charm you, you can use your reaction to attempt to turn the charm back on that creature. The creature must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw against your warlock spell save DC or be charmed by you for 1 minute or until it takes damage.

Bewitching Magic

Level 14

You can cast one enchantment or illusion spell from the warlock spell list at its lowest level without expending a spell slot. Once you cast a spell in this way, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Archfey Patron a good subclass for Elf Warlock?
Yes, it is an excellent fit! The Archfey Patron excels at battlefield control, which perfectly matches the Elf's natural agility and defensive traits like Fey Ancestry. Elves gain natural resistances to charms, which layers beautifully with the subclass's focus on enchantment magic. With high Charisma and Dexterity, you will easily evade threats while locking down enemies with your powerful Archfey Spells.
What makes Archfey Patron different from other Warlock subclasses?
Unlike subclasses focused on raw damage, the Archfey Patron specializes in evasion, illusions, and mind control. It turns you into a slippery controller. Features like Steps of the Fey and Misty Escape allow you to teleport out of danger when threatened, while your expanded Archfey Spells let you charm, frighten, or confuse groups of enemies rather than just blasting them.
