Why Warrior of Mercy?

The Warrior of Mercy turns the traditional martial-arts Monk into a premier frontline support. By utilizing your Dexterity to strike enemies and Wisdom to mend allies, you walk a fine line between life and death. The Human's Versatile trait is an incredible asset here, allowing you to select a free Origin feat at level 1 to boost your survivability or battlefield positioning before you even choose your subclass.

Once you reach level 3, features like Hand of Healing and Hand of Harm let you spend Focus points to either restore hit points to a companion or inflict extra necrotic damage on a foe. This is where your Human Resourceful trait shines; getting a free Heroic Inspiration after every long rest ensures you can reroll a crucial attack or saving throw when your party's survival hangs in the balance.

Finally, with the Human's Skillful trait providing an extra proficiency alongside Implements of Mercy (which grants Insight, Medicine, and herbalism kit skills), you become a highly capable medic both in and out of combat, proving that humanity's adaptability is the ultimate medicine.

Warrior of Mercy Features

Hand of Harm

Level 3

You use your martial arts to inflict wounds. Once per turn, you can deal extra damage to one creature you hit with a weapon attack using your Martial Arts, or with an Unarmed Strike. The extra damage equals one roll of your Martial Arts die. This damage is the same type as the weapon or Unarmed Strike.

Hand of Healing

Level 3

Your mystical touch can mend wounds. Once per turn, you can heal one creature you touch, restoring hit points equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die. You can do so only if you have Focus Points remaining.

Implements of Mercy

Level 3

You gain proficiency with the Medicine skill. If you're already proficient in it, you add double your Proficiency Bonus to checks you make with it. When a creature you can see makes a saving throw, you can use your Reaction and spend 1 Focus Point to increase the saving throw by a number equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die.

Physician's Touch

Level 6

When you take a Short Rest, you can restore hit points to yourself or to a friendly creature you can see during the rest. The amount is equal to the creature's maximum hit points minus its current hit points. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of one use). You regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.

Flurry of Healing and Harm

Level 11

You can use your Flurry of Blows to heal or harm. When you use Flurry of Blows, you can replace each Unarmed Strike with an effect that deals no damage: You can restore a number of hit points to a creature equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die + your Wisdom modifier. You can inflict damage on a creature equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die + your Wisdom modifier.

Hand of Ultimate Mercy

Level 17

When you would normally roll one or more Martial Arts dice as part of a feature that restores hit points or deals damage, you can instead use the highest number possible for each die. For example, if a Martial Arts die is a d8, you treat each die as if it rolled an 8.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Warrior of Mercy a good subclass for Human Monk?
Yes, it is one of the strongest pairings for a support-oriented Monk. Humans gain a free Origin feat via the Versatile trait, allowing you to grab crucial early-game defense or utility. Since the Warrior of Mercy relies heavily on managing positioning to deliver Hands of Healing, the extra flexibility of a Human ensures you are always in the right place at the right time.
What makes Warrior of Mercy different from other Monk subclasses?
Unlike other Monks who focus purely on damage or evasion, the Warrior of Mercy specializes in dual-purpose combat support. It replaces some of your attacks with healing or debuffs. With Physician's Touch, you can automatically cure conditions like blindness or poison, or inflict the Poisoned condition on foes without allowing a saving throw, making you an incredibly reliable utility martial artist.
