Why Champion?

The Champion is the ultimate physical "Striker," a party role focused on dealing massive, consistent damage on the front lines. As an Orc, you are uniquely built to survive dangerous encounters while hunting for devastating critical hits. The Champion's signature Improved Critical feature lets you land double-damage critical hits much more often (on a roll of 19 or 20). Since Orcs thrive in the thick of melee combat, this simple but deadly combat style fits your natural strengths perfectly.

Getting close enough to swing your weapon can sometimes be a challenge for heavily armored fighters. Fortunately, your Orcish Adrenaline Rush trait lets you dash as a quick bonus action while gaining temporary hit points. This means you can close the distance to your targets instantly, absorb incoming attacks, and start swinging. If a tough enemy does manage to wear you down, your Relentless Endurance ensures you bounce back to 1 hit point instead of falling unconscious.

With physical-boosting features like Remarkable Athlete helping you jump further and run faster, this build requires very little complicated rules-tracking. You can focus entirely on positioning, survival, and rolling high damage numbers.

Pro Tips

1

Use your Adrenaline Rush to charge past minor enemies and reach high-value targets, then unleash your Improved Critical attacks on them.

2

Pair your Additional Fighting Style at level 7 with a greatsword or greataxe to maximize the damage of your frequent critical hits.

3

When reduced to 1 HP by Relentless Endurance, play aggressively; your high critical chance can defeat threats before they can hit you again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Champion a good subclass for Orc Fighter?
Yes! The Orc Champion is one of the most beginner-friendly and resilient builds in D&D. While other subclasses require managing complex spell lists or resources, the Orc Champion focuses on passive combat boosts. Traits like Relentless Endurance and Adrenaline Rush perfectly offset the Fighter's lack of magic, keeping you alive and mobile while you fish for massive critical hits.
What makes Champion different from other Fighter subclasses?
The Champion specializes in raw physical perfection and simplicity. Unlike Battle Masters who use tactical maneuvers, or Eldritch Knights who cast spells, the Champion relies on constant passive upgrades. It excels at landing frequent critical hits with Improved Critical, gaining extra Fighting Styles, and jumping further. It is the ultimate choice for players who want a straightforward, highly reliable frontline warrior.
