Why Draconic Sorcery?

Choosing an Elf for your Draconic Sorcery Sorcerer creates a powerful blend of ancient grace and destructive magical might. As a "Blaster" role, your job is to deal massive damage from a safe distance. The Elf's natural defenses beautifully complement this role. With Fey Ancestry, you gain advantage on saving throws against being charmed and are immune to sleep magic, keeping you awake and focused on casting spells when enemies try to shut you down.

Your draconic heritage physically alters you starting at level 3. Draconic Resilience raises your base Armor Class (AC) and gives you extra hit points, making you much tougher than typical spellcasters. Combined with your high Dexterity (13) and Constitution (14), you won't need to worry about wearing bulky armor to survive. Furthermore, the Trance trait allows you to finish rests in just four hours, giving you more time to prepare your spells or keep watch for the party with your Keen Senses.

At level 6, your Elemental Affinity feature kicks in, allowing you to add your high Charisma modifier (starting at 15) to damage rolls of your chosen dragon type. This synergy turns your basic elemental spells into devastating blasts while your elven heritage ensures you stay standing to deliver them.

Draconic Sorcery Features

Draconic Resilience

Level 3

Your inner draconic magic manifests as physical traits. Your hit point maximum increases by 1, and it increases by 1 again whenever you gain a level in this class. Additionally, when you aren't wearing armor, your AC equals 13 + your Dexterity modifier.

Draconic Spells

Level 3

You learn additional spells based on your draconic ancestry that don't count against the number of spells you know. These spells reflect the elemental nature of your dragon ancestor and enhance your connection to draconic magic.

Elemental Affinity

Level 6

When you cast a spell that deals damage of the type associated with your draconic ancestry, you can add your Charisma modifier to one damage roll of that spell. You can also spend 1 sorcery point to gain resistance to that damage type for 1 hour.

Dragon Wings

Level 14

You gain the ability to sprout a pair of dragon wings from your back, gaining a flying speed equal to your current walking speed. You can create these wings as a bonus action on your turn. They last until you dismiss them as a bonus action. You can't manifest your wings while wearing armor unless the armor is made to accommodate them.

Dragon Companion

Level 18

You can spend 5 sorcery points as an action to summon a draconic spirit that serves you loyally. The spirit takes the form of a dragon matching your draconic ancestry and fights alongside you. It obeys your commands, acts on your initiative, and remains for 1 hour or until reduced to 0 hit points.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Draconic Sorcery a good subclass for Elf Sorcerer?
Yes, it is an excellent choice. Elf Sorcerers often struggle with low hit points and armor class, but Draconic Resilience solves this by boosting your health and defense naturally. Combined with Fey Ancestry to resist mind-controlling effects, this build creates a highly durable, high-damage spellcaster who can safely incinerate foes from the backline.
What makes Draconic Sorcery different from other Sorcerer subclasses?
Draconic Sorcery specializes in raw, elemental damage and survivability. Unlike utility-focused subclasses, it turns you into a specialized blaster. Features like Elemental Affinity amplify your damage with a chosen element, while Draconic Resilience and eventual Dragon Wings give you the defensive stats and mobility to fly over the battlefield, raining destruction from above.
