Why Draconic Sorcery?

Combining a tiny Gnome with the ancient power of dragons creates a uniquely resilient "Blaster" character. As a Sorcerer, your main goal is to deal massive damage with spells, but spellcasters are traditionally quite fragile. This is where your unique racial and subclass synergy shines: the Gnome's Gnomish Cunning protects your mind from hostile magic, while your subclass's Draconic Resilience feature naturally boosts your armor class and hit points without requiring physical armor.

Since your primary ability score is Charisma (CHA), you will be casting powerful elemental spells to decimate battlefields. At level 6, the Elemental Affinity feature lets you add your Charisma modifier to your chosen element's damage, making your spells incredibly deadly. Meanwhile, your innate Darkvision ensures you never lose track of targets in pitch-black dungeons, letting you safely blast enemies from a distance.

Draconic Sorcery Features

Draconic Resilience

Level 3

Your inner draconic magic manifests as physical traits. Your hit point maximum increases by 1, and it increases by 1 again whenever you gain a level in this class. Additionally, when you aren't wearing armor, your AC equals 13 + your Dexterity modifier.

Draconic Spells

Level 3

You learn additional spells based on your draconic ancestry that don't count against the number of spells you know. These spells reflect the elemental nature of your dragon ancestor and enhance your connection to draconic magic.

Elemental Affinity

Level 6

When you cast a spell that deals damage of the type associated with your draconic ancestry, you can add your Charisma modifier to one damage roll of that spell. You can also spend 1 sorcery point to gain resistance to that damage type for 1 hour.

Dragon Wings

Level 14

You gain the ability to sprout a pair of dragon wings from your back, gaining a flying speed equal to your current walking speed. You can create these wings as a bonus action on your turn. They last until you dismiss them as a bonus action. You can't manifest your wings while wearing armor unless the armor is made to accommodate them.

Dragon Companion

Level 18

You can spend 5 sorcery points as an action to summon a draconic spirit that serves you loyally. The spirit takes the form of a dragon matching your draconic ancestry and fights alongside you. It obeys your commands, acts on your initiative, and remains for 1 hour or until reduced to 0 hit points.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Draconic Sorcery a good subclass for Gnome Sorcerer?
Yes, it is an excellent choice. Sorcerers are notoriously fragile "glass cannons," but the combination of Gnomish Cunning (giving you advantage on mental saving throws against magic) and Draconic Resilience (providing free armor and extra hit points) makes you incredibly difficult to take down. It allows you to focus entirely on being a high-damage Blaster.
What makes Draconic Sorcery different from other Sorcerer subclasses?
Draconic Sorcery specializes in elemental blasting and passive survivability. Unlike other subclasses that focus on utility, chaos, or support, this subclass transforms you into a specialized elemental mage. It grants you permanent defensive boosts, elemental damage buffs, and eventually, the ability to sprout Dragon Wings for effortless battlefield flight.
