Why Draconic Sorcery?

Combining the Tiefling's innate magic with the Draconic Sorcery subclass creates the ultimate "Blaster"—a spellcaster focused on dealing massive elemental damage to groups of enemies. Your primary ability score is Charisma (CHA), which powers both your innate Tiefling spells and your Sorcerer magic. Thanks to your Fiendish Legacy trait, you start with innate resistance to fire damage and gain access to free spells, saving your precious Sorcerer spell slots for other destructive options.

When you choose this subclass, you select a draconic ancestor. Choosing a Red or Gold dragon ancestor perfectly matches your Tiefling heritage, doubling down on fire magic. At level 6, your Elemental Affinity feature lets you add your Charisma modifier to damage rolls of your chosen dragon's element. Additionally, Draconic Resilience boosts your defenses by raising your base Armor Class (AC) and increasing your maximum hit points, helping you survive on the battlefield without needing physical armor.

Draconic Sorcery Features

Draconic Resilience

Level 3

Your inner draconic magic manifests as physical traits. Your hit point maximum increases by 1, and it increases by 1 again whenever you gain a level in this class. Additionally, when you aren't wearing armor, your AC equals 13 + your Dexterity modifier.

Draconic Spells

Level 3

You learn additional spells based on your draconic ancestry that don't count against the number of spells you know. These spells reflect the elemental nature of your dragon ancestor and enhance your connection to draconic magic.

Elemental Affinity

Level 6

When you cast a spell that deals damage of the type associated with your draconic ancestry, you can add your Charisma modifier to one damage roll of that spell. You can also spend 1 sorcery point to gain resistance to that damage type for 1 hour.

Dragon Wings

Level 14

You gain the ability to sprout a pair of dragon wings from your back, gaining a flying speed equal to your current walking speed. You can create these wings as a bonus action on your turn. They last until you dismiss them as a bonus action. You can't manifest your wings while wearing armor unless the armor is made to accommodate them.

Dragon Companion

Level 18

You can spend 5 sorcery points as an action to summon a draconic spirit that serves you loyally. The spirit takes the form of a dragon matching your draconic ancestry and fights alongside you. It obeys your commands, acts on your initiative, and remains for 1 hour or until reduced to 0 hit points.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Draconic Sorcery a good subclass for Tiefling Sorcerer?
Yes, it is an exceptional choice! Tieflings naturally resist fire damage, which frees you up to choose a non-fire dragon ancestor for dual-element resistances, or double down on fire magic to maximize your damage. With your high Charisma, you will easily land your Draconic Spells, while your innate Fiendish Legacy spells give you extra tactical options without burning your limited Sorcerer spell slots.
What makes Draconic Sorcery different from other Sorcerer subclasses?
Draconic Sorcery stands out because it provides unmatched durability and elemental damage for a spellcaster. Unlike other fragile sorcerers, Draconic Resilience gives you permanent armor and extra hit points. As you level up, features like Elemental Affinity boost your damage output with a chosen element, and Dragon Wings eventually grant you permanent, non-magical flight. It is the perfect choice for raw, consistent blaster power.
