Why Evoker?
As an Evoker Wizard, your main job in the party is to act as a powerful "Blaster," raining down destructive magical fire and lightning on your enemies. While Wizards are traditionally fragile "glass cannons," playing a Gnome gives you a massive defensive boost. Thanks to the Gnomish Cunning species trait, you gain advantage on Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saving throws against magic, making it incredibly difficult for enemy spellcasters to shut you down while you prepare your next big spell.
When you start casting your explosive spells, you won't have to worry about catching your allies in the crossfire. The subclass feature Sculpt Spells allows you to create pockets of safety within your area-of-effect spells, letting your front-line friends automatically succeed on their saving throws and take zero damage. This means you can drop a massive fireball right on top of your party's fighter without hurting them at all.
Your optimal stats starting with high Intelligence (INT 15) ensures your spells hit hard, while your solid Constitution (CON 14) helps you maintain concentration. Additionally, Gnome Darkvision ensures you can spot targets in pitch-black dungeons, meaning no enemy can hide from your magical wrath in the shadows.
Evoker Features
Evocation Savant
Level 3The gold and time you spend to copy evocation spells into your spellbook is halved.
Potent Cantrip
Level 3When a creature succeeds on a saving throw against your cantrip, the creature takes half the cantrip's damage (if any) but suffers no additional effect from the cantrip.
Sculpt Spells
Level 6When you cast an evocation spell that affects other creatures you can see, you can choose a number of them equal to 1 + the spell's level. The chosen creatures automatically succeed on their saving throws against the spell and take no damage if they would normally take half damage on a successful save.
Empowered Evocation
Level 10You can add your Intelligence modifier to one damage roll of any wizard evocation spell you cast.
Overchannel
Level 14When you cast a wizard spell of 1st through 5th level that deals damage, you can deal maximum damage with that spell. The first time you use this feature, you take no ill effects. Each additional time before you finish a long rest, you take 2d12 necrotic damage per spell level immediately after casting. This damage ignores resistance and immunity.
