Why Draconic Sorcery?

Combining the raw physical power of an Orc with the elemental fury of Draconic Sorcery turns the traditionally fragile Sorcerer into a surprisingly durable frontline blaster. While most spellcasters must cower in the backlines, your subclass gives you Draconic Resilience at level 3, boosting your maximum hit points and granting you a natural armor defense. This means you do not have to worry about wearing physical armor or wasting spell slots on defensive magic just to stay alive.

Your Orc heritage enhances this survival playstyle perfectly. If an enemy manages to break through your scales and reduce your hit points to zero, your Relentless Endurance trait kicks in, letting you stand tall at 1 hit point instead of falling unconscious. Furthermore, the Adrenaline Rush trait allows you to use a bonus action to dash away from danger while gaining temporary hit points, ensuring you can easily reposition to unleash your elemental magic safely.

As you level up, your damage sky-rockets with features like Elemental Affinity, which adds your Charisma modifier to your favorite element's damage. With high mobility and unmatched toughness, you can confidently lead the charge and burn down your foes.

Draconic Sorcery Features

Draconic Resilience

Level 3

Your inner draconic magic manifests as physical traits. Your hit point maximum increases by 1, and it increases by 1 again whenever you gain a level in this class. Additionally, when you aren't wearing armor, your AC equals 13 + your Dexterity modifier.

Draconic Spells

Level 3

You learn additional spells based on your draconic ancestry that don't count against the number of spells you know. These spells reflect the elemental nature of your dragon ancestor and enhance your connection to draconic magic.

Elemental Affinity

Level 6

When you cast a spell that deals damage of the type associated with your draconic ancestry, you can add your Charisma modifier to one damage roll of that spell. You can also spend 1 sorcery point to gain resistance to that damage type for 1 hour.

Dragon Wings

Level 14

You gain the ability to sprout a pair of dragon wings from your back, gaining a flying speed equal to your current walking speed. You can create these wings as a bonus action on your turn. They last until you dismiss them as a bonus action. You can't manifest your wings while wearing armor unless the armor is made to accommodate them.

Dragon Companion

Level 18

You can spend 5 sorcery points as an action to summon a draconic spirit that serves you loyally. The spirit takes the form of a dragon matching your draconic ancestry and fights alongside you. It obeys your commands, acts on your initiative, and remains for 1 hour or until reduced to 0 hit points.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Draconic Sorcery a good subclass for Orc Sorcerer?
Yes, it is an excellent choice. Sorcerers are normally easy to defeat, but the Orc's defensive traits like Relentless Endurance combine with Draconic Resilience to make you incredibly hard to kill. This allows you to play closer to the frontline, positioning yourself perfectly to blast enemies with close-range elemental spells without fearing immediate defeat.
What makes Draconic Sorcery different from other Sorcerer subclasses?
Draconic Sorcery specializes in elemental destruction and physical durability. Unlike other subclasses that focus on utility or chaos, this subclass guarantees permanent armor, extra health, and a massive damage boost to your chosen element through Elemental Affinity. Later on, you even get permanent wings for flying, making you the ultimate mobile blaster.
