Why Diviner?
Choosing a Tiefling for your Diviner Wizard creates a potent controller who can manipulate destiny while shielding themselves with hellish magic. As a Diviner, your most iconic feature is Portent, which lets you roll two d20s at the start of the day and swap those results in for any roll later on. With your optimal starting Intelligence of 15, your spell saving throws are already tough to beat, but Portent allows you to bypass luck entirely and force critical failures on your foes.
The Tiefling's Fiendish Legacy trait pairs beautifully with this playstyle. It provides you with innate fire resistance, protecting your fragile Wizard frame, and grants you free spells like Hellish Rebuke. These innate spells expand your magical toolkit without costing precious Wizard spell slots, allowing you to focus your resources on controlling the battlefield and recovering slots through your Expert Divination feature.
Meanwhile, your Darkvision allows you to spot threats in pitch-black dungeons, meaning you can cast your spells or deploy your Portent dice from safety. Together, these traits make you a resilient, highly adaptable spellcaster who is always three steps ahead of the enemy.
Diviner Features
Divination Savant
Level 3The gold and time you spend to copy divination spells into your spellbook is halved.
Portent
Level 3When you finish a long rest, roll two d20s and record the numbers. You can replace any attack roll, saving throw, or ability check made by you or a creature that you can see with one of these foretelling rolls. You must choose to do so before the roll. Each foretelling roll can be used only once. You gain a new set of rolls when you finish a long rest.
Expert Divination
Level 6When you cast a divination spell of 2nd level or higher using a spell slot, you regain one expended spell slot. The slot you regain must be of a level lower than the spell you cast and can't be higher than 5th level.
The Third Eye
Level 10As an action, you can increase your powers of perception. Choose one of: Darkvision (60 ft), Ethereal Sight (see into the Ethereal Plane within 60 ft), Greater Comprehension (read any language), or See Invisibility (see invisible creatures and objects within 10 ft). The effect lasts until you use this feature again or finish a short or long rest.
Greater Portent
Level 14You roll three d20s for your Portent feature instead of two.
