Why Diviner?

As a Diviner Wizard, your job is to rewrite destiny. Your signature subclass feature, Portent, lets you roll two d20s at the start of the day and substitute those results for almost any roll later on. Whether you are forcing a boss to fail a saving throw against your control spells or ensuring an ally strikes a critical blow, you hold the threads of fate in your hands.

Playing a Human makes this fate-bending playstyle even more reliable. Thanks to the Human's Versatile trait, you start your journey with a free Origin feat to boost your high Intelligence (INT 15) and secure an early advantage. Furthermore, the Resourceful trait grants you free Heroic Inspiration after every long rest, giving you a reliable backup reroll when your Portent dice are already spent.

This combination turns you into the ultimate battlefield controller. Between your extra Skillful proficiency to boost your utility outside of combat and your ability to recycle spell slots using Expert Divination later on, you will always have the perfect tool for any challenge your party faces.

Diviner Features

Divination Savant

Level 3

The gold and time you spend to copy divination spells into your spellbook is halved.

Portent

Level 3

When you finish a long rest, roll two d20s and record the numbers. You can replace any attack roll, saving throw, or ability check made by you or a creature that you can see with one of these foretelling rolls. You must choose to do so before the roll. Each foretelling roll can be used only once. You gain a new set of rolls when you finish a long rest.

Expert Divination

Level 6

When you cast a divination spell of 2nd level or higher using a spell slot, you regain one expended spell slot. The slot you regain must be of a level lower than the spell you cast and can't be higher than 5th level.

The Third Eye

Level 10

As an action, you can increase your powers of perception. Choose one of: Darkvision (60 ft), Ethereal Sight (see into the Ethereal Plane within 60 ft), Greater Comprehension (read any language), or See Invisibility (see invisible creatures and objects within 10 ft). The effect lasts until you use this feature again or finish a short or long rest.

Greater Portent

Level 14

You roll three d20s for your Portent feature instead of two.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Diviner a good subclass for Human Wizard?
Yes, it is an exceptional combination. Humans offer unmatched early-game customization through the Versatile trait's free feat, which helps you protect your concentration. This synergy allows you to safely cast game-changing spells, while your Portent feature ensures those spells actually land. It creates an incredibly reliable, highly adaptable controller right from level 1.
What makes Diviner different from other Wizard subclasses?
While other Wizards focus on raw elemental damage or summoning monsters, the Diviner specializes in absolute certainty. Through Portent and Greater Portent, you remove the randomness of dice rolls entirely. You also specialize in information gathering, using Expert Divination to cast utility spells virtually for free by regaining expended spell slots.
