Why Wild Magic Sorcery?

A Goliath Wild Magic Sorcerer blends raw, chaotic magical energy with a towering physical presence. As a controller, your main job is to dictate the flow of battle by hindering enemies. Your high Charisma of 15 powers your spells, while your Constitution of 14 helps you maintain concentration on key crowd-control effects when the chaotic magic starts flying.

The Goliath's Giant Ancestry provides an excellent safety net. Wild Magic is notoriously unpredictable; using the Wild Magic Surge feature can sometimes trigger unexpected magical anomalies right on top of you. Having Giant Ancestry's defensive options ensures you can shrug off your own magical mishaps and stay on your feet.

Additionally, features like Tides of Chaos allow you to gain advantage on rolls. Combined with the Goliath's Large Form, you can physically dominate the battlefield space while locking down enemies with your chaotic spells, creating a thrilling, high-reward playstyle.

Wild Magic Sorcery Features

Wild Magic Surge

Level 3

Once per turn, after you cast a sorcerer spell of 1st level or higher, the DM can have you roll a d20. If you roll a 1, roll on the Wild Magic Surge table to create a random magical effect.

Tides of Chaos

Level 3

You can gain advantage on one attack roll, ability check, or saving throw. Once you do so, you can't use this feature again until you finish a long rest. Any time before you regain the use of this feature, the DM can have you roll on the Wild Magic Surge table immediately after you cast a sorcerer spell of 1st level or higher. You then regain the use of this feature.

Bend Luck

Level 6

When another creature you can see makes an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can use your reaction and spend 2 sorcery points to roll 1d4 and apply the number rolled as a bonus or penalty (your choice) to the creature's roll. You can do so after the creature rolls but before any effects occur.

Controlled Chaos

Level 14

Whenever you roll on the Wild Magic Surge table, you can roll twice and use either result.

Tamed Surge

Level 18

You gain a measure of control over the surges of your wild magic. Whenever you roll on the Wild Magic Surge table, you can roll twice and choose which result to use. If you roll the same number on both dice, you can instead choose any effect on the table.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Wild Magic Sorcery a good subclass for Goliath Sorcerer?
Yes! While Wild Magic is highly unpredictable, the Goliath's natural durability makes them one of the best species to survive its chaotic surges. Your Giant Ancestry allows you to shrug off accidental damage from your own spell mishaps. Combined with a solid Constitution of 14, you can confidently stand closer to the action to cast powerful control spells without fearing sudden magical backlash.
What makes Wild Magic Sorcery different from other Sorcerer subclasses?
Wild Magic Sorcery specializes in unpredictability and fate manipulation. Unlike other subclasses that offer stable, predictable magic, Wild Magic introduces random magical effects via Wild Magic Surge. It also excels at bending luck; features like Tides of Chaos and Bend Luck let you directly alter dice rolls for yourself, your allies, or your foes.
